  • Thoroughly remove mud and debris

Rainwater carries silt and grit into the gaps between wire strands, causing continuous electrochemical corrosion. Clean the entire rope after every rainfall, wiping away mud from the crevices to prevent corrosive impurities from adhering for extended periods.

  • news-439-323Apply specialized protective grease

After cleaning, apply a specialized wire rope grease evenly to create a barrier against humid air and saline or acidic rainwater. Do not use standard general-purpose grease; such lubricants wash off easily when exposed to water and fail to provide long-lasting rust protection.

  • Operate smoothly to minimize mechanical shock

Avoid sudden starts, abrupt braking, and violent jerking or stopping; severe shocks can cause internal fatigue cracks in the steel wires. Control operating speeds to reduce metal fatigue caused by repeated tensioning and delay the onset of wire breakage.

  • Refinish guide wheels to prevent wire abrasion

Inspect pulley and guide wheel grooves, and smooth out any burrs or sharp edges. Rough groove surfaces can continuously abrade the outer wires, leading to extensive damage in a short time.

2Conduct routine inspections and replace worn ropes promptly

Focus inspections on sections contacting the pulleys and the rope anchorage points. Closely monitor any isolated broken wires; if the number of broken strands reaches safety limits, replace the rope immediately to prevent accidents involving mid-air breakage.

  • Implement protective storage measures during prolonged downtime

When the equipment is idle, apply a thick coat of anti-rust oil to the rope and cover the entire assembly with a waterproof tarp to shield it from sun and rain, thereby slowing the rate of corrosion.
