The Fundamental Differences in Structural Design

While tower cranes feature a rotating jib, their core characteristic lies in their vertical tower structure. Like a giraffe's neck supporting its head foraging, a tower crane achieves high-altitude operations through a fixed or ascending tower. In contrast, jib cranes (such as truck cranes) resemble octopus tentacles, relying entirely on the folding and extending of a hydraulic boom to complete their movements-this is the most fundamental difference between the two.

Tower cranes serve as "aerial corridors" on construction sites, specifically designed for fixed-point vertical transportation:

Effective for intensive lifting in confined spaces.

 

Can self-elevate as the building rises.

 

Jib cranes, on the other hand, are "mobile all-rounders," commonly used in:

The Uniqueness of Their Working Principles
The tower crane's balancing system acts like a seesaw: the short boom counterweight and the load on the long boom create torque balance. Horizontal movement is achieved by a trolley sliding along the boom track, while the jib crane changes its working radius through the extension and retraction of multiple hydraulic cylinders. The vertical tower of a tower crane makes it more wind-resistant, but it is not as flexible as a boom device that can rotate 360°.
