Wire Rope Clip Installation Guidelines
Tower crane wire rope clips are the lifeline of high-altitude operations. Remember three key points during installation:
Consistent Direction: All clip U-bolts must be pressed against the live end of the wire rope; do not install them alternately.
Spacing Control: Maintain a spacing of 6-8 times the wire rope diameter between adjacent clips. For example, for a 20mm rope spacing, leave 12-16cm.
Tightening Force: Tighten the nut until the wire rope is flattened by 1/3. Overtightening will damage the wire, while undertightening will cause slippage.
U-Shaped Clip Operation Specifications: This seemingly insignificant small component can determine the success or failure of a lifting operation:
Opening Orientation: The U-shaped clip opening should always face away from the main rope direction to prevent the threads from breaking under stress.
Matching Use: Must be used with the matching nut and flat washer. Do not use alone or mix and match parts.
Strength Test: Before first use, perform a 125% overload test. The clip is considered (qualified) if no deformation occurs after 5 minutes.
The Wisdom of Double Insurance
Seemingly simple metal components conceal ingenious mechanical design:
The wire rope clips utilize a three-point force principle, distributing pressure from a single point through multiple clips.
The U-shaped clip's rounded design allows the sling to fit naturally, preventing sharp edges from cutting the rope.
Regularly inspect the clip threads for wear; replace immediately if rust is found.
In windy weather, increase the number of clips by 20% to counteract the effects of wind-induced swaying.
